I am new to the group. I have 6 Buff Orphingtons and planning on adding more this spring. I have 6 Muscovy ducks, 2 dogs and 1 cat. I am planning on adding some sheep and a couple of pigs this year. Have to finish getting the barn built first. I am a 1 woman show, so it takes time. Also learning as I go and that slows progress as well. But so far so good. I had 10 hens and a rooster but learned the hard way about pesky weasels. Have now hardened the coops and runs against them. Live and learn.

Hello and Welcome to BYC! Glad to have you in this poultry loving community. Sorry about your loss and I'm so glad we do not have weasels here. I have to defend against bob cats, raccoons, and foxes. l haven't seen coyotes close but they can be heard in the distance. I understand having to work alone so much of the time. Now that my wife is on oxygen she helps but not like she used to could.

hi, welcome to byc. wow you are amazing to do all that yourself! more power to ya!! i’d love to see pictures of your birds and all. it’s very nice to meet you. i am also pretty much a ‘one woman show’ with occasional help from my adult children if and when they stop by. it’s a great feeling of accomplishment to build things isn’t it!!

Welcome!! I've only been here a short time, but so much information is available. Your farm/homestead sounds very active with ducks, chickens, dogs and a cat. Keep us posted on your progress. Building a barn is hard work. Congratulations on all you have accomplished and I'm sure more is on the way. Homesteading is a process.
