Hello all, Looking to quickly add some pullets. Has anyone gotten pullets locally at their TSC? Hopefully good luck with them. Just needed some opinions on TSC. appreciate, Deb

Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! There are many members that have purchased chicks from TSC (as well as other farm stores). I think you'll find opinions a mixed bag, so much depends on the TSC employees and how well they are trained to handle chicks.

I've never purchased chicks a TSC, only from the hatchery or my local small feed store, but many people do! Just keep in mind TSC sells what they call "straight runs" which are male and female mixed. So you may not get all hens if this is what you are after.

I would be leery buying chicks from Tractor SC. They are notorious for mixing the straight runs with the sexed pullets and for mixing up breeds.

I have only purchased pullets from Meyer hatchery on 2 occasions and then switched exclusively to broody hatching.

Welcome to BYC. I've had mostly good luck at Tractor Supply. I have gotten breeds other than what they advertised, and once I got a male in place of a pullet, but it does depend on the employees. I prefer Atwoods for accuracy in breed and gender.

I haven't bought any from TSC but know many around here in WI that do as there aren't a lot of other choices for many. I've never heard any complaints except for the occasional, "They said these 10 were pullets and I got a rooster."
