You can find lots of great coop ideas here.
I'm in SC and have similar weather to you. If you're looking for egg layers and/or pets, I'd recommend getting Plymouth Rocks, Sussex, Easter Eggers, Wyandottes, or Orpingtons. Bantams are also a wonderful option for pets but aren't very productive layers if that's something you're wanting. Best of luck establishing your flock!

hello! well all i know is do not get english chocolate orpingtons. they are so big and floofy they do not do well in heat.
