Hello! Welcome to BYC!I am not a new owner, but for an adult I am. We got the chicks because our kids love our neighbors that free roam into our yard, also want to teach them responsibility by collecting eggs. We live in Tx so plenty of space to have many chickens hopefully.
I posted a thread with pics asking what I have I got them at tractor supply and unsure of the sex and breed now
Hi, what breeds do you have in your flock? Pictures are always welcome if you'd like to share!
One of the few things chicken wire is good for...keeping them OUT of the garden. We have ours fence with the 3' chicken wire as we have silkies who can't fly for squat, but maybe you'd need the taller kind. It keeps rabbits out too.Welcome aboard! Can't type too much, just realized that my chickens are playing havoc on some plants I just planted in my garden.....
Guess my chickens are Olympic high jumpers since they can hop over my 4' fencing...lolOne of the few things chicken wire is good for...keeping them OUT of the garden. You can pick up netting at Walmart in the garden center and probably farm and other stores too, that's pretty cheap but it keeps the birds out of our strawberries. Your chickens might use it like a trampoline though.Guess my chickens are Olympic high jumpers since they can hop over my 4' fencing...lol
I actually have plans on purchasing some netting, but need to construct some beams to hangover with the netting...large enough to cover 60'x40'. That's so I can contain the flocks within their main run and out of our garden areas....and also to keep out the 3 hawks that fly over daily. You can pick up netting at Walmart in the garden center and probably farm and other stores too, that's pretty cheap but it keeps the birds out of our strawberries.
