I had a handful of hens on a five-acre lot back in Washington several years ago. I now live in Austin, TX in a regular suburban house with a regular sized back yard, and decided I wanted some birds again. I initially ordered a "smart coop" and it seemed to me to be of poor quality, so I returned that. I'm joining now to get some good ideas for a coop build and I'll just do that instead of buying a pre-fab coop.

Thanks in advance for all the tips and advice!

Hello, Chris, and welcome to BYC. 'Smart' move on returning the 'smart coop'. Modifying a garden shed or constructing a coop yourself is the way to go. Make it bigger than you think you will ever need - chickens are addictive.
