We adopted an older cockatiel a few years ago, and it didn't like us much, but warmed up just by moving slowly around it and talking to it. When replacing food/water dishes or doing things in the cage, talk softly and make very slow movements. I also raise macaw parrots, and they were the same way when I first got them, just bigger beaks, so harder bites.
I would ask in this forum though. Caged Birds - Parrots, Canaries, Finches etc.
I also raise/breed silkies. Your auntie is going to love them!
