Hi all =) I am a new member from Idaho & my name is Tracie
We got our first batch of chicks this last April. My aunt gave us 4 from her latest hatch. One of them turned out to be a rooster and we live in city limits, so we found him a home that needed him to guard their flock. He is doing great and loving life on their farm. Our remainig hens are an Easter Egger, an Ameraucana and a Golden Comet. They started laying eggs about 2 weeks ago.
I love listening to the ladies in the mornings while they forage and wander. I also really enjoy treat time when the all come up and say hello and get their scratches from me or my husband. They are all very friendly and happy to see people. We are unable to fully free range, but have installed a large dog run attached to their coop, so they have some room to roam. We live semi-rural, so we get deer, turkeys, pheasants and other wild critters that like to stop by and check out the girls. Mostly they like the small amounts of feed and such that girls kick out of the run while they are scratching around. I am sure the hawks and cats would love to get a little closer for a snack, but we keep them as secured and safe as possible.
Outside of chickens, we have a Chocolate Lab named Bailey. We love to go boating in the summer and also enjoy hiking and ATV riding. We are members of the local Elks Lodge where we hang out with friends and family while we raise money for Veterans, the Idaho Food Bank, youth scholarships and other local charities. When it is too cold or we want to chill, my husband and I play World of Warcraft online.
I found BYC in Google search about what supplements are good for my girls. I am grateful for all of the information being shared in the forums. I have gotten a lot of great info on what NOT to do as well as a few great tips on how to keep my ladies healthy and happy!
