Hi all! New member from the Colorado mountains. I have been raising chickens since 2015- mainly for the company and eggs for family and friends. My current flock is 8 strong and very mixed- reds, austrolops, orpingtons , 1 leghorn (smallest chicken that lays the biggest eggs) and 1 Ancona. My golden retriever Cooper is very protective of our flock and does a great job of keeping the coyotes, foxes, mountain lions and bears away but because of local hawk nests my flock resides in a 45' x 20' pen w house and free ranging area-fully enclosed. I am retired so besides my chickens I spend my time sewing, doing sublimation crafts, high altitude gardening and going to grandchildren's events (our 7 year old grandson races dirt bikes!!). Keeping me from getting old! Recently had a health/feed issue with two of my chickens that got me searching for help on the internet...where I found Backyard chickens.com. Hoping to learn more to keep my flock happy, safe and producing!!
