Welcome to the site! :welcome

I feel like the Pacific Northwest gets more moderate weather than over here in New England, so you should have your choice of breeds! I can vouch for Australorps for being troopers in heat/cold, and they're fantastic layers as well. Oh, and VERY friendly! If you don't want to worry about frostbite at all, maybe a breed with a smaller comb, like Brahmas, Easter Eggers, or Ameraucanas. Best of luck with whatever you choose!
You're absolutely correct! I'm originally from the Northeast and the winters back east are way more harsh than out here. Once the winter moves in back east it stays cold concisely until the spring. Out here it varies a lot more. It can snow several feel one day and then be 50+ degrees the next day. When I used to live in Denver (which is very similar weather to where I am now) they would say if you don't like the weather just wait fifteen minutes! It's also much drier/less humid.

Hey, if I could pack up and join you over there, I would! 🤣
Though the flip flopping weather certainly sounds annoying... at least I know it's winter until May here.

Welcome to BYC! You have a great setup there and a good plan with lots of projects to keep you busy. I'm in the snowbelt of upstate NY just south of Lake Ontario, where we have already had over 130 inches of snow this season with about two feet on the ground. I have to shovel pathways to everything I need to access: the coop, the barn, my workshop, the shed, the fuel oil and propane tanks, etc. My Brahmas, Buff Orpingtons, and Golden-Laced Wyandottes are all large docile breeds that do well in cold and have come through this winter so far just fine, even though they have an unheated coop. My neighbors have Jersey Giants and Black Australorps which also do well. You might consider one of these or related breeds for your future flock.
