My name is Julia. I live in Virginia. I am in the process of getting chicks to raise a few in my backyard in town. I am allowed up to 6 hens in my backyard in town. I am not 100% sure what kind of chickens the farm I am getting the chicks from has right now. I love animals and was very excited when they recently passed a law allowing chickens. I love nature, animals, photography, and am a teacher. I found this website when googling trampoline coops.

Thanks, I am excited to have joined the group. I saw the article about the trampoline coop and think that is just the coolest idea. I would love to try that in my backyard. I would love to get the follow-up info to make the chicken yard.

Hi Julia, by chicken yard do you mean the chicken run? The run you'll want to make as large as possible (especially if you are not going to be free ranging), and use hardware cloth around the sides to keep your flock safe. An overhead covering of some type is recommended too, that prevents aerial predators and gives the flock some protection from rain and snow. Put some enrichment items in the run to keep the flock busy, things like low roosts or logs they can hop on, a dust bath, etc. Here's an article with ideas to keep your flock busy and not bored:

Hope that helps!
