New member from Texas but currently living in New York. We stumbled across the site while online researching different coop designs. My son and I have been slowly working on a chicken coop built from scrap shipping crates I "re-purposed" from work. We are very happy with how the coop has turned out thus far, plus it's the first coop I have ever built. We are to the point now we will be building the run and looking at what type of chickens we are going to get. I figured I might as well join the forum so we can learn as much as we can about the different breeds and what is going to work best for us. Of course both of my kids want little chicks, but I'm leaning towards getting maybe 4 hens and a rooster and going from there.
