Hi! I am new to this site and new to raising chickens. I live in Valley Center, Ca. And am very excited to get started on raising chickens. I pick up my babies today, they are BLRW's, we have our brooder set up and the coop under construction fortunately for me I have 2 carpenters in my house so my coop will be beautiful:). Thanks to your site I have been able to educate myself with tons of information. I look forward to getting to you guys and participate with you in raising our chickens.

Sincerely,
Aahobson

We have our new babies as of last Friday and could not be happier with our flock :) They are Blue laced red wyandotes and are almost 2 weeks old. They are thriving, we are handling them daily and they seem to like being cuddled. We ended up with 6 of them so that we will hopefully get at least half of them being hens.

Glad to hear the new chicks are doing well and you are enjoying chicken ownership! They are a really nice breed, hope you wind up with lots of blue girls.

Thank you very much! Yes I am hoping for a whole lot of blue hens :)

So sad, lost one of my chicks today. Don't know exactly what happened. We did see a squirrel next to their temporary pen. Could they be a predator?

So sorry about one of your babies. Yes, squirrels eat meat. So it is very possible that this varmint did get one of your chicks. I would do all you can to keep everything out of the chicks area. Predators are everywhere. Everything eats chickens.
