Thank you for having me. I am in the process of building my coop. I live in south Georgia and I am curious on what are the best laying hens for my area? TIA

The best way to find out is to visit "where am I, where are you," in this social forum to locate and post on your state thread. I'm guessing you have hot, humid summers. People from your area would know the breeds that tolerate it best and what type of coop is needed. In hot weather areas they often have open type coops - with just wire for one or two sides, for better air flow.

Welcome to BYC!

So glad you decided to join our great community! There are lots of great breeds out there that are suited for your climate. You might start by taking a look at these two external pages on the different breeds and how they handle weather...

And as Drumstick Diva has mentioned, you might also chat with others in your state thread on what they recommend for breeds and other tips on keeping your flock....

Good luck in this new adventure and welcome to our flock!

Hi and welcome to byc. I live in south alabama so we have similar climates. I have brahmas and they are doing well. My coop is hardware cloth on 3 sides and my run is under shade trees. I think u will be fine with any breed u choose as long as their coop has plenty of ventilation. Maybe try to design their run in a shady spot

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good advice above, good luck in your breed search!
