My husband and I are new to the chicken world.

We have the recently began our adventure, buying 4 Barred Rocks on April 3. They were a week old and not sexed, so we don't know exactly what we got in the way of Roos or Pullets. If we go by what we've been told we have a hen and what could be three Roos. Who knows?

So not knowing the sex and being concerned about having enough laying hens, we got 4 beautiful Ameraucana Pullets on May 23.
They are 2 weeks old and in the brooder awaiting to meet the Barred Rock who are outside.

So this is why we became members. My husband and I have a lot of learning along with getting much needed expert advice.
We haven't had a chance to learn much about the Ameraucanas, or introducing the two breeds together.

We live in Portland, Oregon in a home with a good size yard. So my husband was able to build a hutch to allow spacious living conditions.
We have one dog, April, she is a Lhasa Apso who is three years old, and thinks the chicks are great.

So any advice on our new chicks or how to navigate in BYC will be a real bonus. I am Looking forward to hear from any one and learning how to be among BYC members.

Glad you joined us! Here are some tips on how to do things here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/faq

You could post pics of your little ones in the What Breed Or Gender is This? section. The members who hang out there should be able to tell you what you've got.

Enjoy the site!

Welcome to BYC. You can click on the Learning Center or Breeds icons at the top of the page and get lots of valuable information, or if you post specific questions on the forum, I'm sure you will get lots of replies from BYC members.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good suggestions above, X2 a great place to start is the BYC Learning Center, lots of nice articles on all aspects of poultry keeping https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center there is a good article on adding chickens to your flock https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/adding-to-your-flock it is generally best to wait until they are about the same size and then do it gradually though wire so they can see and interact with each other but not touch, ie if you can divide your coop or keep the younger ones in a cage inside the coop.
There is a breed thread for the Ameraucanas you might want to check out for info on your little ones https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...for-posting-pictures-and-discussing-our-birds

Welcome to BYC!

Definitely post some pics in our What Gender section for help with your little ones. And do some reading in our learning center as well. Lots of good articles on raising your new birds.

As for navigating BYC, it can be daunting at first, but you will get the hang of it eventually. Welcome to our flock!

Thank You for all the warm welcomes along with helpful suggestions,
I have some pictures ready.
