My husband and I are new to the chicken world.
We have the recently began our adventure, buying 4 Barred Rocks on April 3. They were a week old and not sexed, so we don't know exactly what we got in the way of Roos or Pullets. If we go by what we've been told we have a hen and what could be three Roos. Who knows?
So not knowing the sex and being concerned about having enough laying hens, we got 4 beautiful Ameraucana Pullets on May 23.
They are 2 weeks old and in the brooder awaiting to meet the Barred Rock who are outside.
So this is why we became members. My husband and I have a lot of learning along with getting much needed expert advice.
We haven't had a chance to learn much about the Ameraucanas, or introducing the two breeds together.
We live in Portland, Oregon in a home with a good size yard. So my husband was able to build a hutch to allow spacious living conditions.
We have one dog, April, she is a Lhasa Apso who is three years old, and thinks the chicks are great.
So any advice on our new chicks or how to navigate in BYC will be a real bonus. I am Looking forward to hear from any one and learning how to be among BYC members.
