After several months of stalking the pages and forums, I finally joined today!

I recently had to rebuild my flock because a dog killed every single one of my chickens.

I have 3 silkies about 3 months old.

An Americauna-Silkie cross rooster (atleast that's what I was told) and apparently he was bred to a silkie and so I have 4 of his babies that came to my house about 4 weeks ago.

I have one golden comment- (she is the only one with a name so far) and her name is Cookie. she is the only one who survived the dog attack.

I also have 2 indian runner ducks, 2 more silkies, 1 golden laced cochin, and 1 frizzle cochin, and one mottled cochin.

I've just recently moved my chicken tractor to a permanent home and have sectioned off the coop and added a chunnel in the last week!

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry for your losses to dog attack. But it sounds like you have a wonderful flock now!

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your new flock, sorry about the loss of your first one.

Silkies really need a Fort Knox of a coop and run. They are really not flyers due to the type of feathers they have on wings etc. Their beards and crests obscure their vision making them easy targets for predators. They disappear fast if free ranged. Often they won't roost but, lay in a pile on the coop floor. You can see how vulnerable they are..
