hey everyone!! i was directed here by a close friend of mine. i just lost almost 3/4 of my flock to a neighbor's dog, and i'll be looking to replenish my flock soon. i was told this is the place to find quality birds, so when i am ready to replenish i'll be posting more!! I will be searching for pretty much anything, but specifically Partridge and barred rocks, cornish game birds in black and white, bantams of any variety (specifically cochins, seramas, dutch whites), regular game birds, lavender and buff orpingtons, and anything with pretty feathers. honestly, i'm not picky. i have my birds as a hobby and i LOVE them to bits. i'm devastated that my girls are gone (i'm down to 8 from 20!) and i'll be getting more soon...plus ya'll are just te best according to everyone!!!!! thank you all in advance for help and advice!!!

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry about the loss of much of your flock. You might start looking in your state thread and chat with your chicken neighbors. They may known where you can find some birds or have some for you...

You can also check out our Buy Sell and Trade section. Lots of birds there for sale or free to a good home...

Good luck re establishing your flock and welcome to ours!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry for you losses. X2 on check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread Most breeds will have one or more threads in the Breeds forum if you do a search on the name, you might want to check them out for breeders if you have specific breeds/colors you are looking for.

What you need to do is beef up security around you coop and run. Check out the predators section for ways to do just that. Otherwise you will be practically handing your replacement birds over to the dog for lunch. He and apparently the neighbor aren't going to change - so you have too.

Have you reported the death of your birds to the police or animal control?. At very least your neighbor owes you money to replace what you had. When it happens again document it with notes and photos(of massacre).

Check out the laws you probably have the right to shoot the dog for destroying your flock. Even if you don't intend to do that - you should have the police pay him a visit and tell you what YOUR rights are if he can't control his dog. That may sober up your neighbor if he cares at all for his dog.
