First time raising meat chickens. Just had first batch of 30 Jumbo Cornish X butchered on Monday. Dressed out at 5.7 lbs average at 8 weeks, is that too big? Next batch I think I will take to 6 weeks to stay in the 4 to 5 lbs range. Fed Nutrena 22% Crumbles and mixed with ground corn last two weeks. Pulled food at night from week 3 or 4. Mixed Broiler Booster with water until I ran out at about week 6. Chicks came from Murray McMurray Hatchery only had one die after home for a day. Next batch come this week 72 JCX, one dead upon arrival.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your meat birds, sounds like they are doing really well. Mountain Peeps gave you some good links to check out. How big you want them is really personal preference, most people do seem to process around 6-10 weeks, the older/bigger they get the more prone they are to physical problems and you may lose them to heart attacks etc, and the feed/weight gain gets worse as they get overly big.

Welcome to BYC! When we had Cornish X, we butchered and ate them at 8 weeks. Good luck in getting your next shipment from MMH.
