Americanas - sorry if I spelled it wrong.
Actually, you spelled it like some of the hatcheries do that market their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas. True Ameraucanas are a standard breed that lay only blue eggs. What hatcheries typically do is cross either the Ameraucanas or Araucanas, which also lay only blue eggs, with other breeds to produce hybrids that lay eggs in different colors other than just blue; olive, green, beige, or even pale pink or gold. These hybrids are actually known in the poultry world as Easter Eggers, but the hatcheries that breed them often market them under the incorrect label of Arauanas or Ameraucanas (frequently misspelled as Americana or Americauna). The "Ameraucanas" that your sister is bringing are likely actually "Easter Eggers." If you are interested in knowing the difference between Araucanas, Ameraucanas, and Easter Eggers, there is an excellent article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html. Our Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's favorite chickens. She loves the different colored eggs they lay. Good luck with your new flock.
