At times nature does some wierd things. Keep grooming the feathers in the right direction and hopefully they'll straightened out on their own. I've seen baby parrots with a stump for a wing and occasionally a vet would have to remove the stump to stop feathers from growing inward. Chicks do a lot of grooming when growing new feathers. My concern would be the chick picking at the sore to the point of self mutilation. If you are handy with scissors and a needle you can fashion a sort of a jacket to keep the chick from creating a sore. With parrots I use a sock with a hole on the end for wings and the head to fit through. I fit the sock to the size of the bird and slide it over the bird like a glove.
Good luck! I'd make that chicken my house chicken!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Glad the chick seems to be doing better. You might want to put something like Blu-Kote spray on the sore, it helps keep the other chicks from pecking at it.

Thanks, yes that is my concern! I might try the sock idea, & if it does survive, I think it might well become a house chicken!

What an adorable chick, seems like he knew there was a wing in there somewhere, or else it felt very irritating to him. Hope he will continue to do well.

I think you are right on both counts! Today the chick seems fine, still eating & drinking & running around, but not pulling at its feathers like it was yesterday. I think the new wing is taking some time to get used to; it is smaller than the other & hangs down. The chick keeps sort of having to hitch it up. It is moving it though so hopefully it's muscles will strengthen. The hole where the feathers were embedded in its body, is already nearly healed. The feathers are a bit of a shambles though at the moment!

We're glad to have you.

Good luck with the chick!

Just to let you know that the chick is doing fine & growing fast. It is very tame & curious! Here is a pic of it watching my

canary ,Paisley, eat his breakfast.

The "in-growing" wing is feathering up nicely & the wounds have healed. Looking at it, you wouldn't guess there had ever been a problem, apart from it looking a bit lopsided.
