Welcome to BYC! I'm learning myself, it's so fun! Being concerned about prey myself I have read into different things that people have done. Some people have Guinea Fowl that alert to prey. Others have trained dogs to protect their flock. My friend has five acres and 100 birds that are free range. He has both of these options and say the fowl alert the dogs and the humans which all protect the flock. He has still lost some though. I guess it's a hard battle at times and takes fine tuning. I love both breeds. You will get an egg a day..well almost every day from that RIR. The Australorp lays very well also..and..will go broody before a RIR.
