I am a new member to backyard chickens. I have had chickens for 2 years and I am looking forward to this sight. So far it seems nice. I hope I can help peoples questions and they can help me.

I have 6 red star hens and 1 French black copper maran hen. I also have a French black copper maran rooster.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have some great breeds (technically Red Stars are not a breed but a hybrid). Red Star is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs with those six girls. :o) And speaking of eggs, in my personal opinion, the chocolate eggs of the Marans are the prettiest eggs in the chicken world.
