Hi to all like-minded "Chicken Lovers"! We are Bob and Sue and we're just now getting into raising chickens. Friend of ours wanted to travel, so they decided to give up thier chickens. We are getting about 10 of them, but only keeping 4 hens and 2 roosters. We'll need lots of information from BYC to help us along the way! Thanks for any tips you can offer!

! Great to have you in our flock! Chicken keeping needn't be arduous or time consuming. Proper food, fresh water, and a safe coop and you're well over half way there. The Learning Center link below will provide with much information on the care and maintenance of chickens. One word of caution...with two roosters and that few hens, the girls may get overbred - this can be tough on their back with feather loss and broken skin. No roosters are necessary for egg production. Some people keep roosters around to maintain the pecking order, for fertilizing eggs they wish to hatch, to keep depend the flock, or just for decoration. Good luck in your chicken experience!!
