Hello everyone! I just got two new female ducks! I am very happy with them. They are mutt ducks so I don’t know exactly what breed but just wondering what you guys think might be in them. Also, just excited with my new ducks! They’re currently in quarantine and are going to go to the vet for a check up soon. Also, unfortunately, they were raised by other ducks and their previous owner had lots of birds and didn’t pay much attention to the ducks so they are VERY skittish… how do you guys think I can help tame them? I tried to put their food in the cage, and I thought they were gonna break their neck because hey kept flying into the ceiling… also sorry for the bad pictures. I’ll try and get better ones in the morning.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new ducks!

This will take patience, calmness, and time but they should come around to you. Right now they're uncertain what they're life is here and who you are.

I would give them names, and when you have one's attention, talk calmly using its name. I would give them each a couple of meal worms or a little bit of scrambled eggs every time you're doing things around them. They'll come to realize you're the bringer of treats and aren't going to harm them. That will build trust.

Thank you! I will try but so far they haven’t drank or eaten…😢 they are so scared of everything!

Poor things must've had a horrible life prior to you getting them! It'll probably take them longer than usual to come around, but they will. They've sadly had a lot to fear in their past and probably zero human interaction.

Yes! the women I bought them from was very nice but the ducks were not in the best condition… the run was not covered and I saw a few pieces of chicken so I’m sure they are very scared of predators. I actually only planned on getting one and then I got there…duck math strikes again! I feel so terrible about not taking the drake but I can not get another one!
