New Mexico

Sounds good. I was going to go, but I only have a breeding pair of partridge brahmas to sell and didn't want to make the 7 hour drive round trip for just one pair. I'll try to sell them down here and if it doesn't work out, I'll think about next month. I have some chicks, but only three that can be sold. Anyway, glad it was fairly well attended. I think some folks think it isn't started yet.

Hello...I am in Taylor Ranch. We are building my backyard flock and I would like to get Cream Legbars and Silkies. Does anyone know a local breeder or someone with these for sale? I would even drive up to southern Colorado if the price was right.

All of my chicks are all grow up now I had a blast rising them.. I have 5 black Langshan,6EE,3Barred Rocks,3 Waynedott, I have lived in New Mexico all of my life I love it here. I live in Los Lunas, but I am going to be moving out to the Westside of Albuqerquerue I want to know if I can have some

We are in Taylor ranch and my understanding is up to 15 chickens and one rooster, as long as the city is not getting noise complaints due to the rooster. I do not know what happens when they do...

Try checking craigs list, I check every other day for chickens and someone is always selling eggs, hens and roosters.
Just be wise when buying from craigs, make sure you check out the poultry before buying for breathing issues and clean from mites which were do have here. Also most feed stores will b selling chicks right about now or within the next few weeks. Millers feed sometimes has full grown chickens and franks feed in edgewood has a poultry swap every 2 weeks. I also will be hatching very soon of all kinds of fancy breeds.

@csaiz100
Enjoy your chicks! May they lay long and large for you!

The Edgewood poultry swap was fairly well attended today. There were guinea pigs, rabbits, quail, turkeys, ducks and -- of course -- chickens. Didn't see any hatching eggs there. Sold all of the Trader Joe's chicks there within 5 minutes of pulling in to the woman at the car next to mine. Her sister is going into the egg business, so in a couple of months she should be rolling in white eggs. It was a good day for all!

Does anyone have experience growing comfrey in New Mexico and feeding to their chickens? I'm curious as to any successes and problems people have had.

I know a couple of people that make salves from comfrey that they grow themselves (Santa Fe area) but I don't grow it myself. I grew some when I lived in Texas. My understanding is that it is very invasive, I wasn't in Texas long enough to find out.

Best to plant from root or crown cuttings or plants. You can probably find it on the internet, just stay away from seeds....they are very difficult to start from seeds. No particular soil requirements, although comfrey does like soil that leans to the alkaline side (shouldn't be a problem in NM). I would say plant in spring or fall here, summer if you live at one of the higher altitudes (Taos, Angel Fire).

Hope that helps. New Mexico is such a diverse ecological state, it is hard to answer whether it will grow in NM or not in one general answer, if you live north of I 40, I'd say the answer is yes, if you live in one of the desert areas, you may have to work harder at it. But, I'm pretty sure you can grow it here regardless of where you live....you just may have to work harder at it.

Try Coes Comfrey for more information.

Anyone around the Roswell area ?
Chicken breeds we currently have ( white silkies , buff Orpington, New Hampshire Reds, black astrolops, Cali whites , Americon (Easter eggers ) and some mutts
