The babies are doing very well! Thank you so much for them! They are so healthy and active, and feathering out pretty quick. The little lavender one loves to fly, and every time I reach into their bin she flies up onto my arm or shoulder!LOL I needed to ask you again- it seems that I remember you saying the babies are from a Ribbeck rooster over Shaeffer hens? Or did I just hear you wrong? I got all excited when I saw the babies that I forgot to write it down! LOL:D

The cockerel is a Ribbeck black split to lav from her LS x LS pen. You can go to her website for the lineage in that pen, but if I remember correctly, she bred a Shaffer lav cock to her black hens, and a Blehm lav cock to her hens, and then bred the splits together. She sent me two of those LS eggs. Your black cockerel and the sire of these chicks are them. The pullet is also Ribbeck, but her lav pen came from Mr. Shaffer. Hope that makes sense.

The smaller lav cockerel is from Shaffer. The larger from Ribbeck.

Don't jinx yourself calling that little lav a she already!!!! The more people oriented chicks tend to be boys, but there are exceptions.

I don't know what interstate travel regs there are regarding chickens. I don't know if the NPIP cert. just covers exhibition animals and chicken shows. Please ask Dr. Baker, the state vet. I think he's sick of me!

What is his number?

Dr. Joe Baker, NM State Livestock Board, 505-841-6161.

He is very nice, but a very busy man. If you really want to push a button, ask about becoming NPIP certified. The state of NM simply doesn't support its poultry farmers the way many states do (ie. Texas)!
