New Mexico

Last night from Corrales I watched as the Sandias were all lit from behind by lightning. Then the storm moved to this side of the mountain and the skies lit up in blinding silver and white flashes and the house shook with all the booms....not much sleep until about 4:00-ish. And quite the toad choker of water.... Yaaaaay!

How'd everyone else do with the storm?

Corrales update:
Okay. The lightning was fun last night. Tonight's storm was just freakin' UNREAL. Loads of thunder, lightning, marble-size hail, winds blowing everything sideways (supposedly close to 80 mph..and my willow stripped of its leaves can attest to it...what little fruit harvest I had in the orchard is probably nil about now), several inches of rainfall and resultant flooding (indeed I watched as stuff floated by in about 6" of water down the cul de sac).

I hope everyone's coops survived. We need the rain, but this is overkill. Just about deaf from all the hail hitting the skylights.

Anybody have damage? I've just got mess of debris to contend with, which is minor compared to some of the flooding out Bernalillo way.

I'm in North Albuquerque Acres, and Thursday's storm was MUCH worse than last night. Last night's was more of an ordinary thunderstorm - wind wasn't too bad, rain was okay, some lightening, and it was over in about 90 min. Thursday was UNREAL. One of the worst thunderstorms I've seen, and I'm from the East coast and midwest, lol. Luckily we are up a bit and my garden and chickens got through fine. My dog yard is flooded, but the dogs would rather pee in my garden and harass the chickens anyhow. I swear my zucchinis and zucchini plants doubled in size in the last few days!

Hasn't rained here in Lincoln county in 3 days.

Hi all,
I'm soon to be a new chicken mom down by the zoo in ABQ. I should be getting my coop and supplies this weekend! Where are your favorite places to get chicken stuff around town?

I like western merc on rio bravo/broadway and dans boots and saddle on N 4th st for feeders, treats, meds, etc. I just went by the Oñate mill on south broadway to get feed and scratch, that was a cool experience, it's where they actually mill and bag the grains, pellets, crumbles etc...

i used to like onate until i had a chicken keep getting wry neck. She got it twice and the first time it took a long time before it went away with the vitamin treatments. The second time she got it I switched to Ranch Way Feed and within two days the wry neck went away. After that i was sold on Ranch Way. Onate food is just a yellow corn color the Ranch way had allot more color to it. with how fast that chicken turned around i figured it has allot more digestible nutrition in it. The pellets are not as hard either they break down faster I'm sure.

I know that as far as horse feed goes Onate is crap. It tends to be really dusty and super inconsistent. When I get my chicks I think I'm gonna go with Naturwise by Nutrena or some other organic feed. Where did you get your chicks?

fat finch, old mill , horesmens feed and supply, and Cross country vans sells ranch way. I don't think ill ever use anything else. Their klassie milk goat and 4 way is the best quality feed I've ever bought. The normal scratch is good but you guys should try the all poultry all grain its really good. Its 18 % protein. I hate to throw out the normal scratch its only like 8% and they seem to eat less feed and wait for the daily scratch so i like the high protein

the moonsoons are finally paying off.
