Lol, no Brinsea for me. I can't see paying so much for such a little incubator. I'm using the Genesis, but Incubator Warehouse has come up with an automatic humidity regulator for them....called Humidikit. But, you can make your own as well from the Plug n Play Hygrostat. I didn't have humidity control last year, but I will this year. Still trying to decide which to go with. I'd like to have a cabinet incubator, but I'm afraid that in our dry environment the humidity control would be difficult. But, if I use the smaller bators I have to have humidity control for each one. So I think I'm going to stick with the smaller incubators and work hard on the humidity, which I think is probably a critical point in high altitude hatching. I also used the soda lime in my final hatch last year, just need to find a better method for me to keep it in the bator, I didn't have any mesh bags for it then but do now.
Have you looked on this site for eggs? It isn't quite the season yet for hatching eggs, but I know I've seen a lot of them from Colorado listed in the want ads in the spring. I am hoping for a better hatch rate with my own eggs this year. Last year, I lost my entire flock to dogs so I didn't have any choice but to either by chicks (Brahmas only come straight run usually) or to try to hatch some. I found a breeder in Oregon at 3500 ft, had about a 33% hatch from her which was better than I'd ever had with shipped eggs. Mine just started laying and the males are dancing, so perhaps I'll have some fertile eggs in a month or two.
Really, Trader Joes has fertile hatching eggs? I had no idea.
