New Mexico

Hey - if you guys get any snow you don't want, could you please send it up here?

I'd be happy to take it off your hands... I could trade it for some of our wind??

Found someone to send me Svart Hona hatching eggs, so I'm going to try for more pullets. Still have 2 cockerels available! In the meantime I'll be a nervous wreck until 1. the hatching eggs arrive in good shape and 2. they hatch into actual live chicks. I've hatched out SO many chicks, but these will be important so now I'm all nervous! Plus, first time using this incubator. My old one was one of those styrofoam ones and it finally just disintegrated.

ETA: Oh! And @FridayYet post close-ups of your chick's heads... maybe I can tell now? I might be able to!

I posted some pics in the Cemani thread the other day. I'm still leaning one pullet, two cockerels and one unknown. I'll get some new and better pics later this week

Good luck on your next batch of SH! Especially with a new incubator. What kind of bator did you get?

It's one of the Mini Brinsea Advanced ones. Compared to my old one it is a marvel of technology. Has auto turning etc. I was used to having to turn the eggs by hand !!

I'll check out the Cemani thread for your pics. I have some pics I took of my group when they were really young, and now that I know how things turned out, I am hoping I can learn to tell earlier which is who.

I've got one of those, too. The set-and-forget factor is really nice. I wish, though, that they had more ventilation as the last few eggs I hatched appeared oxygen deprived. But, again, it could be the mail order from sea-level tight dark-color shellacky Maran shell pores combined with our thin air. AND -- for an ideal incubator -- more room for hatching chicks if you've got a full load of eggs. It's great if you're hatching quail or a just a few chicken eggs, but a real lack of headroom otherwise.

True, but I think the lack of headroom bothers the people more than the chicks.

I also wish there was better viewing.

The new Brinseas have the clear dome, but I'm not sure if there is more headroom inside them or not. Anyways, I'm not buying another incubator, no matter how tempting!
