Good for you for homeschooling! It is really a great way to go. We used to homeschool, but a few years ago the kids decided they wanted to try public. They're very happy at Cliff School. If we lived about anywhere else, I'd sure have them back at home...

My uncle is the HS girls' basketball coach at Reserve. We like going to the Reserve games too.

Your kids sure have a good basketball team...glad they like their school. I enjoy homeschooling for the most part; some days are tougher than others; overall I think it is best for my kids for now. Well, maybe some day I will run into you at a game then. I will be the crazy lady with four little kids, under the age of eight, and a FS firefighter in tow!

Until then it is nice to know that their are some "somewhat" local chicken fans on here to talk to.
By the way, is that a silkie in your picture? It sure has a crazy hairdo! So far my chickens are pretty basic; someday I would love to find a cochin bantam for my oldest son...he loves the chickens and has been dying for a banty.

That's a white polish hen in my picture. She was my favorite, but a dog got her a couple weeks ago.( I've got bantam cochins. I'll get your son one, one of these days.

Sorry about the hen.

That would be awesome to get a bantam from you. Are they as freindly as I have heard they are? I have heard they are great for 4-H too. I would like him to get used to raising them so he can have one when he starts 4-H.

I just set some nice-quality bantam cochin eggs under one of my hatchery cochin girls yesterday. Those are the ones you'll want. I've got 11 eggs, and if I get a good hatch I could sell you a chick.

Yes, they are friendly and sweet. They're my current favorite of all the chickens I've got. A bantam cochin won best of show at our fair last year, but it wasn't mine, darn it.

This year I'm going to win the trophy and jacket, I'm sure of it!

Oh yeah! That would be great....just let me know! What color are your cochins? I'm not picky- just wondered. I have been looking on the internet for them and saw all the different colors...I had no idea there were so many different kinds and colors.

I bought blue, black and splash eggs, but one hen was mottled, so there could possibly be a mottled chick or two in there.

Hello NM, I am new here on BYC. I presently live in Carlsbad. Moved down here from way south in a beautiful little town named Chaparral, Grew up there. I am new to chickens as well, and I absolutely love it. So hello to you everyone from NM............ Oh and just remembered I have been meaning to ask you all, where do you guys buy your feed? Maybe a place where I can buy in bulk. I pay $10 per 50lb bag which is not that bad I guess. Just thinking bout the future when these 74 chicks grow.

Hello from Silver City! That's actually a really good price on your feed, I think I'm paying $13-16 a bag from one of our local feed stores depending on what type of feed.

I pay $11.95 or $12.95 per freshly-milled bag in Silver city. I'd love $10!

Well your the lucky one I love it down there. Thats where I grew up my whole life and really enjoyed it, it was close enough to the city yet far enough to have yourself a nice chunk of land. But I got a good job offer down here so here I am. We are just outside the city where we found ourselves a 6 acre property, so we are pretty excited about starting or own little farm.

Well to get more into detail I pay $15 per 50lb bag of Start & Grow, and $10 per 50lb bag of scratch grains both purina products. How about you, WriterofWords whats the going rate up in El Paso? I go down there monthly so it would be feasable for me to get my feed from there.
