I'm only getting 2 I'm debating on asking to add a third just in case one turns out to be a roo and I can't keep it cause it's too noisy. I was drooling over a Brinsea ECO 20 when the sale on their site was going on (it might still be...) I didn't order though because the shipping was like $40!

The boys do seem to egg each other on, but some are noisier than others.

I think you will like the Lavender Ameraucanas. They are very friendly. What breeder are you getting them from? What if both of them are cockerels?

Hatching is an addiction. Enabling others makes it seem not so crazy. One piece of advice, you will quickly become unhappy with a cheap incubator, so start with a decent one. It's cheaper in the long run.

I really want the brinsea I'd settle for a Hova-Bator like the #2362 maybe but idk... I also like the looks of the brinseas, the sleek lines and the yellow yum! Just so expensive! I wish I had a free shipping coupon for their site wowzers!

I'm hoping to round up some 4-H kids to pass them off to maybe post an ad at the feed store I'll try and stay positive stinks it's near impossible to sex bantams. What age do the male and females ameraucanas start looking distinguishable?
I hope I do like them the lavender ameraucanas are so stinkin' pretty the color is like iridescent sometimes. I tried to pick all friendly breeds. I'm getting bantam splash cochins, the ameraucanas and splash and lavender silkies. I heard that ameraucanas are nice birds but maybe a tad flighty and might be pushy with other birds I hope not. I think it depends on the flock as well and the line they are from are supposed to be pretty sweet and docile. I'm getting the ameraucanas from Laura Undem of flying a farm in Arkansas her line is from John Blehm she's also sending me the two cochins who aren't from any particular line but they are gorgeous!

What do you think, should I get three of each instead of two of each? It's like murphy's law that when you don't want males that's all you get right? lol I'd have to figure out how to explain that to the hubs though... Maybe I should just roll the dice and if I end up without the ladies I want I'll just order eggs and hatch them out myself. Theennn I'll have an excuse to buy the brinsea and I can start being one of the enablers

I have the hovabator you mention and I hate it. I also have the 1588 genesis. It is better in that the temps are very stable, but still not great. I will use it to hatch in. That is probably the minimum to go with and expect decent results. Buy a turner. Your humidity will be more stable and I've had less upside down chicks since I started using one.

My lavs are MUCH less flighty than my Black/blues. I believe there is a regular seller of bantam Lav Ameraucanas on this site. Hatching is a wonderful sickness. Good luck either way.

Sexing Ameraucanas is difficulty at best. The more I hatch the better I've gotten. Generally, if you can make out three distinct rows to the peacomb, it's a boy. The boys will also have thicker legs and be more outgoing early on.

I think I ask my husband out of respect and I hear yes 99% of the time except when it comes to wanting more animals. He's such a meanie!! It took me 2 years to get him agree to getting a cat and I knew better than to even ask about chickens! I just waited until I could accumulate some ammunition and guilt trip him into agreeing haha!!

To be fair he usually asks me before he does anything decision making wise as well and I say NO a whole bunch more than he does I'm just a wicked witch like that!

I wonder what he'd do if I just set up a bator and started some eggs without saying a peep, I'm sure he'd figure it out at some point
