As requested, I am a new chicken tender. We had a small 5 week-old Australorp show up in our yard back in June. It lived in my perennial gardens.. Slept on a thick thistle branch. I worried when it rained, worried about predators. I realized that it had adopted us and so the story goes...bought a coop, built a run and after reading that they need friends acquired 3, 5 week old chickens that are in quarantine now. We named our new friend "Bertie" although we do not know if it is a he or a she yet. No crowing, no eggs.
