Hi, welcome to BYC! It's nice to meet you. I would definitely recommend silkies. No I'm not biased at all..Hey there!!
We’re a family of 4 from Canada!
Our human kids are 2 and 4 and I stay home when them on our little 1 acre property in the country!
I am a registered nurse by trade but found a passion for staying home with my kids and spending as much time outside teaching and playing!
I have a life long phobia of birds (chickens are high on the scary list) but my little fam really wants to have them! So here I am doing my own exposure therapy so we can confidently get some chicks in the spring!
The more I look at silkies the more I want them (never thought I’d say that about birds) but I’m afraid our climate just isn’t practical for them!
I’ve researched calmest docile birds and they were the 1st to come up along with orpingtons (but they are GIANT.. and very chicken like).
I’ll accept any advice and guidance!
Thank you!
Welcome. Agree with @TwoCrowsHello and welcome to BYC!
Lots of people have bird phobias however tiny baby chickens are so helpless and adorable, I have a feeling your phobia will melt away immediately. I'd stick with friendly breeds like Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, Plymouth Barred Rocks, ect... if you pay them a lot of attention as babies they become lap warmers as adults.
Best wishes and welcome to our community!
