We then decided to run power and water to the coop. No more drop cords across the yard and it's nice and convenient having a water hydrant right beside the coop.

My neighbor rented a ditch witch to install some drainage pipe in his yard. I ran the trencher and help him install the pipe in exchange for letting me borrow it for a couple hours. Those couple hours turned into a week long project! The coop has a 20 amp outlet outside, one inside and a simple light fixture for a single light bulb. Nothing fancy, but I figure I can extend the laying season and provide a heat lamp if needed.
