New Octagon Coop Construction Underway - Progress

OMG, Loubapache...that is superb! I was going to axe my collapsed gazebo. (no roof, just the floor and railing) It is in the wrong spot to turn into a hen house, and I could not envision it ressurected as a gazebo. I may need to rethink this.
Keep the inspiration coming. I am loving this!

) and build one when we move in 3 months.

Nice gazebo!

Joist Finished! We added a few more joists in for good measure. The floor should be rock solid with all those in there now.

Corner Close-Up. Our design gets modified as we build. When we started off we made the main component the size it needed to be so that a whole 4' x 8' sheet of plywood would fit on it. Then we realized the corner pieces would have no joist underneath them. So we added extras in so that corner piece of plywood will be fully supported. Likewise with the side components.

Coop Location. Here's how close the coop is to the house. Convenient for popping out and collecting eggs etc.

Wicked coool!
I know what you mean by math working out! Just working an a 6 by 6 coop and even when it is square you have to know your feet and inches. Throw in a sloped roof and math on the go!
Glad my 12 yr old is helping me out!

Thanks for all the responses everyone!
I am trying to keep the updates regular.

Final Joists. Spot the difference? Oops, we forgot to include joists under one edge of plywood. So we quickly remedied the situation. Now we have a couple that are close together. We'd probably have spaced those more if we had thought of these ones earlier.

Floor Jigsaw. We took three 4' x 8' sheets of 3/4" plywood and cut them with a circular saw and screwed them down with two screws so we could have the right shaped pieces. We put screws in different positions so we'll be able to tell which piece goes where. We have removed the pieces for painting. They are going to be painted on every surface, and several coats, just to be sure.

I am discovering my limitations with a circular saw. A couple of the triangles aren't totally 90 degrees, just a tiny variation though, nothing huge. Looks good from the deck. The next photo should be with the painted pieces back in position. The wind did not help at all, plenty of sawdust flying around and into unhappy eyeballs, but we did it anyway. Yay! Hopefully you can tell from the photo that we put one full sheet of 4' x 8' in uncut. Then we took a second sheet and cut two pieces for the side components and the remaining piece for the main component (at the top there). The third sheet we cut in half, then put a piece in the triangle corner and marked with a pencil and cut, repeating for each corner. We have a couple of pieces of plywood leftover from that sheet that look like they will work for the lids of the nest boxes, which is nice.
