New Ohio laws dealing with auctions and slaughter?

Today I bought chickens and I think I'll hold off buying for a good while. It was so frustrating/chaotic. I've heard the auction has gone downhill but this, gah.

It was freezing cold, geese were right next to the paying area. After an hour wait in the freezing cold, we were finally at the 'hole' and got our bill. We tried to argue off a white silkie roo we did not bid on, they wouldn't let us take him off.

The lady had us sign a waver so we wouldn't have to slaughter our purchased chickens (she emphasized that part, I thought it odd), then she asked us about getting chickens tested for something. We asked her to repeat, she might have, but yeah, upset geese, angry/impatient people behind us, I have no clue what she said.

We were ushered off to get our fowl. I think someone did the switcherroo on my roosters...Their feet had such severe leg scale mites they have to be in severe pain. The roo I looked at had nice, clean legs. I was livid at that point.

I finally got home. I was curious what she wanted them tested for, so I got out the paper. I get home, read the 'waver'. It says we have to take the chickens for immediate slaughter.

That's all it says, nothing else to explain this or what law orders this.

I bought chickens less than 6 months ago. There was nothing like this. Now it worries me, both the slaughter thing and the testing. Anyone have any clue about this?

i don't think I would go that the auction again. I have gone to a few and never had to deal with that. Maybe it was the sellers' condition?

Other people had the small slips too. So I'm guessing it was for everyone.

But wouldn't they have to mention the seller's condition when auctioning the bird?
I'd think that'd be like selling land to a person planning to use it for commerical, only to have a condition it can't be used for commercial.
Silkies aren't for eating afterall (or eggs for that matter).

I found one PDF that mentioned they're testing for Avian Flu. I'm not sure if that was it or not. West Nile was found 45 minutes from us. Gah.

It was just odd there's no legal info on the paper. When we bought/sold horses at the auction the papers gave an explanation and the likes about coggins testing and what would happen if they tested positive.

And yeah, I don't think I will. Never had problems before, but tales of switching and stealing have gotten more common. I got to see it firsthand. I went for a black, compact roo with clean legs to a red taller roo with severe leg scale mites (and lice, oh joy).
Problem is, not too many fancy chicken breeders around here. And most seemed to be poorly cared for. Same boat I'd be in now.

one of the auctions by our home makes you have Chickens and turkeys that are not going to immediate slaughter to be blood tested. I dont know why but they do .It is the only one I know of around here that does this
