Kingman, AZ
Hi, My name is Iris, aka Nana, aka Gameblossom on video games. I'm in Kingman AZ, outside of city limits but still close enough to deal with neighbours. I grew up on a farm in Oregon *many moons ago* but one of my favourite parts (besides picking wild berries all summer and running around my grandparents' property like a wild-child-Pippi-longstocking-throwback) was the chickens. Hubby and I have talked (ok, I've talked, he's nodded and listened, he knows almost nothing about chickens) about getting chickens, and about a month or so ago I dropped into the Tractor Supply to buy dog food and walked out with 4 adorable baby chicks. I know it would just always be talk if I didn't just DO it. I *believe* I picked up Amerucanas, they definitely look like them, but I (stupidly) didn't write down the info on the box, I was too excited!! I remember they were good egg layers and heat adjusted for our climes. They were straight run, and watching them I think I have 3 girls and 1 boy unless the second boy is just a possible late bloomer! (1 is definitely bigger than the other 3, but one of the "girls" seems to be getting a slightly larger comb than the other 2...)
Friend of mine is coming over tomorrow and we're building the coop - I was going to do it today, but I'm missing some of the tools I need, and I'm not in as good of shape as I used to be. Plus, I had the grandkids, and the 4-year-old wanted to help, but I was worried she'd get hurt, so I just kinda distracted her with other things.
Ah yes - I have an 8 yr old grandson and 4 yr old granddaughter here in town, and three other grandkids across the country. I can post pics of my babies if anyone likes, they seem to be losing their baby feathers a bit again, damn they grow quick!
Oh, I don't have the money *today* but I sure wouldn't mind a young female *black* Ameracauna to mix in with these gals. I actually like the big ruffled necks.

Hi and welcome to BYC and congrats on your new hobby. Feel free to post pics - we always like to see them.

Thanks! I've been reading quite a few of these links already, although I really 'ought' to be in bed right now...lol

Hi! Welcome! Kingman was one of the places we thought of retiring to, but we landed in...Oregon. Our place is coated in berry bushes so I'm hopeful for a good haul. When we used to drive to Flagstaff, Sedona, Grand Canyon, etc. we always stopped st the Carl's Jr. Such a pretty area.

i zm older too and amazed by how hard it is to do simple things! But i think chicken work is fun so ...

You'll love it here I hope!

Congratulations on returning to the wonderful world of chicken raising and coop building! Hope the build goes well for you. I've been spinning my wheels on getting another one built, and my indoor babies need to become outdoor babies ASAP.

It sounds like you will be able to give your grandkids at least a wee bit of the fun you experienced at your grandparents' place.

Welcome to BYC and, of course, everyone here loves to see baby (or any other kind of) chicken pictures, so feel free to post them any time!
