:welcome Glad to have you here Neighbor, welcome back to the world of raising chickens, this is pretty much my first time around, other than a easter chicken when I was 9, I've never had them till about 3.5 yrs ago.. I'm over 40 yrs past that first chicken. Took me about 4 years of debate and research to get them, @sourland is right, build it bigger than you think you need. I'm happy to hear that I am not the only one that can't get out of Tractor Supply without bringing a box of chirping fuzzies home with me, I did good this year, made it in and out twice without doing it, but then a friend showed up to pick up the hatch that I'd done for him and showed me his little Red Comets and that was it.. went back, picked up 4 of those, sent a text to the DH told him there were only 5 left in the tote, he said go get them..lol.. so I did, one was ill so I picked up the last 4. 8 new chicks to add to the collection.

Hi Iris. Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our happy flock. Retirement is so much fun. You get to do the things you've been putting off for years, like raising chickens. I hope you have fun in your chicken adventures.

I wish I could find a 'job' as an animal caretaker for snowbirds or something in an area we wouldn't mind settling in. I know they exist, I just never find the right ones or find them in time to apply. Feed a horse, some chickens, pigs, whatever, and live in a little house or RV on the back of someone's property, save up and get our own spot to homestead on. THEN I could have as many chickens as I want. :wee:celebrate
