Hi, from mid-west Georgia....I was a member years ago, and I am re-started with a new backyard flock.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Upon retiring in 2013 and moving to a rural area, I decided that chickens would be fun to have. I originally had a flock of 6 which dwindled over the years. Now I am re-starting with a new group of girls.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 6 laying hens right now.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Two of each: Black Australorp, Welsummer, Buff Orpington

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are fun to watch - each has a different personality. I also love having fresh eggs daily.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking and building various simple pieces of furniture.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Our rescue dog (border collie/blue heeler mix) loves to help get the chickens into the coop when I need to close them up early.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? As a newbie some years ago, I was searching the internet for information. I found this website to be very helpful. Now with a new flock, I decided to re-join and catch up on some of the forums.

Welcome back. I have learned you're never truly retired. I retired from my job in 2009 and wonder how did I do everything when I was working but I was also younger. Good luck and have fun...
