New on Ducks

Ok, i have never had ducks and i am thinking about getting some can i please get some info on ducks like can ducks and silkie chickens stay in a coop together. what breeds may i like i am wanting a sweet, fluffy breed and do ducks have to have a place to swim, and can you eat duck eggs. thanks for answering my questions if you want to add any info please tell me.

1. Yes but you will have to make sure the drake doesn't mate your hens. In most cases with adequate amounts of female ducks around he wont.

2. We don't really have any "Fluffy" breeds of ducks. There are silkie ducks that are very soft to the touch. However, if your looking for a lap bird that has a lot more to do with how it's raised vs breed.

3. They really need a water source to keep their feathers in the best shape. A simple kiddie pool will do.

4. Yes you can eat duck eggs.

ok i am thinking about getting a rouen ducks but is it hard to get females in d\them ducks like chickens its hard to get a hen.

Ducks don't absolutely NEED water but it is healthy for their well being. If theres no possible way for them to swim, they will survive, but it's pretty unfair to buy ducks and not let them swim

No female rouens are readily available. Are you looking out exhibition or utility rouens?

Yes they are great birds but they defiantly are not for everyone. Plus they are very broody and not the best layers.

sorry about that i found another breed of duck it is a wild flying mallard can you give the breed profile on them and i will probably show them but they will mostly be kept as a pet

Mallards are one of the breeds that needs much more involved breeders. Many of the birds do not have the best type. What exactly is a breed profile?
