Hi, my name is Jane, I'm a mother of three busy boys and I live on one acre in the country. I live in Ohio and I am wanting to get a couple chickens in the spring. I have never raised chickens and I'm not too sure about what I am doing yet. This seems like a friendly place to start asking questions and getting ready for the spring when I will be starting this new adventure. My main question to anyone out there, is which breed of chicken would be the best to start with (and best for the Ohio climate)? I will have plenty of room and I think will start with maybe 3 to 4 chickens. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!
First, hi and welcome!
If you go to www.mypetchicken.com you will find they have a breed selector. You can answer some questions about what you might be looking for and the tool will suggest which breeds might be appropriate for your situation. Of course there are also many people on here from Ohio who will be able to make suggestions as well.
from S. Florida! Its great to have you here with us! I, personally love the Barrred Rocks! They are so sweet. I'm certain you'll find some breeds that really appeal to you, not to worry! Enjoy!! Love your user name, very cute!
