Had another idea

Not sure how the lure would work mine probably wouldn't chase a lure through an obstacle course

Agree it would have to be simple until people started breeding towards this. Curious about something Centra, what do you mean fish dummy ?

Will be making oversized lures minus hooks to explore impacts of coloration on aggressive behavior of sunfish defending nest. Color likely important. Eyes in proper place is important.

Breeding will be an issue but training will makeup for a lot in early stages. This could be like preparing quarter horses competing on those trail courses where training often is more important than genetics, especially when trainers are all over the place with respect to their abilities.

Chickens used for that sort of stuff are mentally very much shy of what are games are capable of.

So you would understand the importance of certain key colors in key locations of the "hawk" dummy to initiate the response that we would be looking for. Sensors, number of whirls around the maypole, speed chasing the dummy could all be used.

Nice diagrams. someone knows how to use MS paint haha.

I like the "hawk"dummy idea... find the key markers that would trigger an attack response, without makign it obvious "paraphernalia"..

Events should promote athletic abilities of gamefowl not the owners ability to train a chicken. I dont know how to train animals.. I need to do some research. all my animals just know what "not" to do... like do no kill chicks... do not pee in the house etc. I havent trained a chicken to do or not do anything.

Under no circumstances should you think the past competitiveness of gamefowl was solely a function of genetics. Health and conditioning were extremely important with the latter also a function of who was in charge of the keep. You did not just show up with birds of good breeding. You fed birds, got them accustomed to handling, and gave them physical workouts that promoted speed and power in the beginning and endurance when things went longer. Endurance is a measure of athleticism as any athlete will tell you. The added dimension is smarts which will enable gamefowl enthusiast and their birds to adapt to the changing social climate without perishing in the hands of show only breeders. In the recent past changes / innovations have been mostly associated with the heels, now it is going to be about what you can get the bird to do willingly.

Let me rephrase my first sentence. Events should promote athletic abilities of gamefowl AND the owners ability to train a chicken.

My little tug o war apparatus was a perfect example of no training gone bad. Without any training they just flopped around trying to remove the harness i strapped on them. I still need to train them but I am sure the thing will work once I do.

I have spent my entire life in training for various things, and I do agree it is as important as genetics or natural ability.
