New owner, almost.

Well I ordered 9 started pullets from myer hatchery. They are due to pick up on Mar 20. 3 Rhodes, 3 barred rock and 3 golden buff.
I had an unused back room in my barn that was years of junk. Cleaned it out and started on the coop.
One condition I may be gone several days at time. So I need large feeders/water for that. Roll out nest box with rear entry so that eggs can be retrieved easily without getting inside coop. Poop board under roost, auto door to open/close to outside. Large clean out door. I think I have it all except the feeder and water and adding a large window/ventilation. Here are some shots of the work. View attachment 1999192 View attachment 1999195 View attachment 1999192 View attachment 1999195

I agree that the ramp is steep and that the two roosts are too close together. Anyone roosting on the lower level is going to get pooped on during the night.
I would make the board L-shaped and just have one L-shaped roost centered along the length. Based on your estimations, your roost length would then be 12 feet if you cross them in the corner. My birds actually really like that area. Then run the ramp parallel to the long leg of the board similar to what's shown below. I've found that having the top of the roost 13" above the surface is the poop boards works well to allow the birds to easily hop up into the roost but not easily peck the heads of birds passing by who are trying to get a spot on the roost.
I also have my coop waterer up on two stacked landscape blocks that are 8" high total. Your waterer could be placed centered under the short poop board near the pop door as that would not be a landing zone.

Well your experience shows, thank you. If I find I have to modify I will consider the L shape. I do like the idea of hanging waterer under the poop board to free up more of a landing zone. My board now is about 38" off the floor. Nest box is 12 off of floor. I was thinking to keep things off the floor. Bedding on floor was going to use Pine Shavings?

I moved my flock into their new coop on Easter Sunday last year. I bedded the 12x8 coop down with 3 bags of large flake pine shavings from TSC. I added one more just prior to the onset of winter. I've yet to replace the shavings in the coop as the vast majority of the poop is removed every morning from the boards. Shavings work great.
