Well going to Gillmans tommorow and they have breeder parrots for sale as well as chickens and other poultry , i am great at taming down breeder parrots I have proof

1 sunconure , 1 blue crown, several tiels, ringneck keet , all extremely tame and loving and enjoying their newfound freedom LOL
i am checking out

1 indian ringneck
1 green cheek
2 blue crowns
2 sunday conures
and possibly a goffins

( he will be my first choice )

that is so not fair. i'm thinkin adopting a former breeder will be my only shot a getting a timneh african grey. do tell you neutral room secrets to taming them.

you can kinda tell when you get them if they will tame down , alot of breeder parrots were hand-fed pets , this guy belonged to a woman and she had to go to a nursing home and then her kids

didnt want to keep him so they sold him to a dealer ,the dealer sold him, so on and then he ended up at the trade show and i knew he was special
by the kissy noises he made when he saw me


Here are my taming tips

#1 . lots of food , alot of irresponsible or just clueless breeders who are breeding for profit
feed sunflower seed only diets - Mine love pasta, canalope, baby food , apple

#2 sweet talk , they love the attention

#3 showers , they love showers with a misting bottle ( dollar tree )

#4 toys

#5 DON'T FORCE A BIRD TO STEP UP OR BE HELD they will do it on their own time , most bites are fear based not aggression

you could get a second hand bird of Craigslist even a timmneh

I have always been kinda a bird whisperer and my birds are free flight most have come from bad situations or have been neglected so they relish the attention and care

"Taming" parrots is really about earning trust and learning to read your birds body language.

Sometimes when you live in an area without many rescues (as I do) you have to poke around and look at surrounding states. Also check out Petfinder; sometimes parrots end up in 'normal' humane shelters and such.
