New Peachick - Signed.. Clueless ??

I think that peachicks that are raised together will be buddies for life. That does not mean that one will not be dominate over the other one, it just means that they will know each other and get along. The problems you hear about are generally when introducing a strange bird into the flock and during the breeding season.

Last year I had multiple cocks in the breeding pens and there was very little contention, the younger, lesser cocks knew their place and I had no fighting. Being that there is always an exception to the rule I did have to turn out one cock but he was a nut job fighting with everyone, hens included, but once he was gone there were no more problems.

Hi Everyone . Just learned that my baby chick - is a MALE !! Woo Hoo !! :) Was now wondering if anyone had any suggestions - do I try to get another chick for company to raise together ? I feel bad for him being alone . But he's becoming VERY socialized and looks for us wherever he is . Always flies to my husbands shoulder whenever he's around him and just coddles around his neck . I keep him indoors - at least for this whole winter as he is alone and its mighty cold in NY .. Is it ok to get chick thats a bit older - he's about 6-7 weeks old and I can get try to get a 3- 4 month old as that s all thats available . He was a late hatcher .. Now most importantly - another male, or female ?? Thanks everyone for all your feedback !!

Meant to add this recent pic. He loves his bells and mirror too . I believe he's a Black Shoulder - per all your last posts . Do you still thinks so ??

Peas are really so social, your cute little guy will certainly be happier with a pea friend!

How did you find out the sex? Did you DNA test, I know you were thinking about it. A 3-4 month old is going to look like a monster next to a 6-7 week old, be careful they can hurt smaller ones without really trying to. There is just so much size difference. If you feel like a road trip, my late hatch turned 6 weeks this past Monday. It's a spalding split to BS and split to Bronze, name is Tsunami and I've no idea yet if its a he or a she!

Yes, I sent a small blood sample to HealthGene in Toronto . They were great, only $12. Literally recd a reply within 24 hrs they recd the sample so less than 1 week to find out. I'm not sure about buddying him up with another male or female? I heard males are quieter with a female ? Your chick is darker than mine , arent females darker ? I would def consider if you are planning not to keep "it" .. How far are you from lets say Harriman Woodbury Commons in NY ? I could always message you ..

We are over 4 hours from the PA/NY state line, when I said road trip, I wasn't kidding.

I would consider letting the little one go only because you have an only-chick and it is an only-chick, this one does have a mama hen though. Being a spalding it is difficult to sex, the green blood makes even hen chicks look darker and gives them a lot of striping that IB hens wouldn't have. Mom was Bronze BS both of which are recessives so you don't see them. I don't know if they would be quieter with a hen, I have 38 Peas so everyone makes noise all the time.
