New Peafowl and Duck mom from PA

Hi! I’m new both here and to the flock world. We live on forest land in south central PA. Arwen is our peahen and is 7 months old. We got her from a farm north of us and she seems very weary of humans. So far her favorite treats are walnuts and blueberries.

This week we will be adding 3 Cayuga ducklings and then 3 Welsh Harlequins in May. So far we are doing an all female flock for eggs and enjoyment :).

We have two small streams and plan to free range everyone once they are settled. Inside, we have two zebra finches, a canary, an America short hair cat, long haired German Shepherd, and a staffy-lab-boxer-etc. mix (the latter three spend much of their time “free ranging” already to the deers’ dismay.

Highlights from the wild bird pop are the classic PA woods birds including a very loud pileated woodpecker, two day-time active Barred Owls, a tiny crested kinglet going three years strong, two fox sparrows, and our favorites: the blue jays. Our jays are the alarm bells for all of the predator birds and keep everyone safe and sound.

Thanks for already being welcoming! Hope your flocks are staying warm and safe.
Here’s Arwen :).

She’s been with us for four days (looks like she’d been getting pecked by her barnmates and I don’t think had the best nutrition given what I’ve read about feathers).
