Hi I have just got 7 new quail, one male and six hens. The first week they arrived they seemed pretty unsure of things but now they have settled in a couple of the hens especially one is chasing and pecking the other girls. I am new to keeping quail and am not sure if this is just the hens sorting there pecking order out? If so when will this calm down?

If you start to notice blood or injuries on a bird, I would separate it. Bald spots, if they occur on chest/back and not only on the back of the head (which can be caused by breeding) can be stress or bullying and again I would isolate the injured bird or try to see which is the violent one and separate that one. They may be trying to see who will pair off with the lone male. I only have three quail so take my advice with a grain of salt! I’m sure some more experienced quailsters will be here to help soon! 😊
