I am new to raising ducks...I ordered 2 Pekin ducklings...Are they good natured and can they be raised with my 6 baby chicks that I have also ordered?

IMO personality should really be based on individuals. In general Pekins are not aggressive but there will always be exceptions. Yes you can brood ducklings and chicks but be aware ducklings are MESSY. Especially with their waterer.

Congrats on the babies!

Hi and welcome! I am also a new Pekin duckling owner of two ducklings. They indeed are VERY messy with their waterer and I have to keep changing out their bedding every 2 days or so because everything is soaked. :) :) They are very cute though and we are enjoying them!

hi and Welcome to BYC!!! You made a great choice with getting Pekins

. My Pekin is pretty easy going. I also have Mallards and a baby jumbo pekin/rouen mix. Like Kevin said, each bird will have their own personalities, just show them lots of attention and they will become more attached to you. Good luck, Oh and yes chicks and ducks can be brooded together. I did it, but then kicked them all out to the coop by 2 1/2 weeks.

I really like Pekins. I think you'll be happy with them. I personally think it's best to raise chickens and waterfowl separately, but that's just my own preference. Here are my reasons (the first one being my main concern):

Chicks and ducklings have different nutritional requirements.

Ducklings LOVE water and are very messy.

Ducklings don't seem to peck at each other like chicks will do and I don't want them to get pecked at by chicks (can you tell I love my ducklings?).
