So building the new pen this weekend to replace the one the tree fell on.
making it almost double the size and extended our pond into it. Going to grate off the entry waterway so animals can’t get in.
The ground, after months of deep litter method was about 6 inches of muck from straw and al the rain this year.
want to make it dryer this time around. We pushed the mucky ground making some landscape for them to walk on, and covered it with regular dirt. It looks pretty good actually and we gently sloped it so any water from storms will flow into the pond are rather than pool in other areas
but as I said we want to make the ground firmer and dryer. Have been debating sand or planting grass. I read that ryegrass is good. And figured grass would attract bugs. But I remember how my first 2 ducks decimated the grass out there, much less 6 more added to the mix.
I read sand is good but is play sand harmful? I have access to a lot of that which is why I ask, or would a different type of sand be better?
Or is there any other methods people use?
