Well when this guy was young we thought he was a girl but we did not realize he was a rooster until he grew up but he was always very loud wen he was young - we thought he was just a drama queen! He died of a heart attack last saturday after a great 3 year life of king of the coop - it was still very sad to see though

Nope, it's a rooster. If the red was evenly over the body, especially on the breast, it could be a hen. But that patchy/splashy coloring is all boy. He's gonna be flashy for the lay-dies!

I didn't give up hope on my EE rooster until the day I heard him crow. He was always bigger than the others, though, even from just a few weeks. This has been my first experience with chickens, but it seems that EE's are always mixed with something random, so there's always that off chance that the coloring is not a 100% indication of rooster. If you're hoping for a hen, and it's not super obvious, you should know within a couple of weeks if he starts crowing (mine started around 16 weeks to crow).

Good luck. No vote from me on whether it's rooster or hen. I can't tell, but don't think 'he' is flashy enough, just yet, to be sure.

And see, with easter eggers I go far more by color than comb or hackle or saddle feathers. To me the color is the indicator long before those other signs show up.
He may not be "flashy enough" yet, but he will be. That red color will continue to spread/enlarge as he ages. And I guarantee you won't find a hen with that same coloring.
